"Department of Wellness"?

Ok, I'm back. Let's lighten the mood a little.

Mickey Kaus, ambivalent Kerry supporter, in Slate.com today:

Department of Wellness"! Spirit-crushing foolishness from my candidate, John Kerry. The nation is trying to figure out how to fight global terrorism and he's talking about having "not just a Department of Health and Human Services, but a Department of Wellness." How about a Department of F***ing Perspective? If Bush is smart he'll be ridiculing Kerry about this for the rest of the month. ...Thanks, Iowa!

I love it.

Department of Wellness. . .wow. I wasn't sure if this was a legit story, or just a parody on Kerry's incompetence as a politician. I still think that his campaign staff isn't as stupid as he, the candidate, is indicating. At this point, screwing up like this is not the fault of his advisors, nor of a campaign manager. John Kerry is just a terrible candidate and no amount of advising or handling can fix that. Of course, Stephanie Cutter has taken some pretty low swipes at Bush, so it's fun to see her look like an idiot explaining her boss's latest flip-flop (and what a blunder! And in a speech no less, not an extemporaneous interview! Who was in charge of vetting that speech? Maybe his advisors really are that stupid!)

Also, it sounds like the media is finally getting a little restless and impatient with Kerry's media embargo. It'll be interesting to see if this will start to affect the positive press he receives. If CNN is getting antsy, then it's about time to start talking again.
